Young Calibration Ltd. provides United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited flow calibration, air velocity calibration and pressure calibration services to industries worldwide.

Founded in 1996 by engineer Adrian Young, Young Calibration Ltd began offering its flow meter calibration services to the automotive industry, serving customers like BP, Shell, Ford, Visteon, JCB, Ricardo, Cosworth and Perkins.
Flow Calibration

Young Calibration has steadily grown over the years, presently occupying three business premises, one mobile facility and employing ten personnel. The company prides itself in offering first class equipment calibration services at competitive rates for customers worldwide. Providing calibration support for flow, air velocity, pressure, temperature, humidity, electrical and mechanical parameters the company offers a total calibration solution for many industries. Key personnel enable the company to provide specialist calibration support in automotive, aviation, environmental, medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

The company's team of mobile calibration technicians perform on-site calibration and testing for clients in the UK, Europe, Asia and the United States. Young Calibration's onsite calibration engineers are among the leading specialists in their fields of expertise. Travelling as far afield as the US and the Far East, the engineers spend more than half their time at clients' own locations. Young Calibration's onsite experts can provide all calibration reference equipment, or simply provide experienced and expert support to a client's existing calibration infrastructure.

Flow Calibration Services

Young Calibration has one of the most comprehensive flow meter calibration laboratories in the U.K. for calibrating fluid flowmeters up to 4 inches and air flowmeters up to 12 inches. The laboratories in Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex, UK, house over 14 flow calibration rigs, 2 calorimetric wind tunnels and a high velocity calibration wind tunnel. Recent additions to the fleet now includes a versatile mobile calibration vehicle, equipped for a range of flow, temperature, pressure, torque, dimensional and electrical calibration parameters.

The firm's experienced employees have strong backgrounds in engineering and quality assurance, and have more than 70 years of combined experience in flow calibration, air velocity calibration and thermal testing systems.

Water Flowmeter Calibration Undertaking flow meter calibrations from 0.05 ml/min the laboratory can cover a range of infusion pump testers and HPLC calibrators from manufacturers such as GJC Instruments, Phase Separations, Fluke, Biotek, to 100 mm non intrusive and clamp on meters capable of upto 2000 l/min. The external laboratory is presently installing a second larger flow system to accommodate flowrates upto 5000 l/min. Flowmeters can be calibrated traceable to National Standards or accredited to ISO 17025 via our UKAS accreditation. For more information on our water flow calibration facilities please visit our website.

Hydrocarbon Flowmeter Calibration The five oil flow calibration rigs cover flow rates from 0.01 l/min upto 1100 l/min using various industry standard oils. A range of oils, viscosities and temperatures can be accommodated to cover most calibration requirements. Specialist oils for automotive, aviation and hydraulic industries are held in stock to enable quick turnaround times. UKAS accredited calibrations are available from 0.6 to 440 lpm on an ISO Grade 10 calibration oil. All types of flowmeters can be calibrated including coriolis, positive displacement, wedge, ultrasonic and turbine meters. For detailed information of our oil flow calibration facilities please visit our website.

Gas Flowmeter Calibration The laboratory houses two UKAS accredited gas flow facilities and two further traceable facilities. The ISO 17025 accredited flow range is 0.2 l/min to 450 l/sec with a best measurement uncertainty from 0.5% of reading. Traceable air flow calibrations can be undertaken from 1 cc/min upto 1000 l/sec covering meters upto 12" in size. All types of flowmeters can be calibrated within the laboratory including laminar, thermal mass, turbine, positive displacement, variable area and coriolis meters. For more information on our air flow calibration facilities please visit our website.

UKAS Pressure Calibration

Laboratory reference standards from Ruska, Degranges & Huot, Mensor and Druck provide the users with a range of UKAS accredited hydraulic and pneumatic services covering both gauge and absolute measurements. Low pressure calibrators provide calibrations down to 10 Pa full scale and deadweight testers upto 1100 bar. A range of on-site pressure calibration services are available for UK locations, coupled with both electrical and temperature parameters. Over the years the company has calibrated sensors from Fluke, Kulite, Kistler, Druck, Gems, Ruska, Rosemount, Testo, Furness Instruments, CMR, Honeywell, Ashcroft, to name a few.

Air Velocity Calibration for Anemometers and Pitot Tubes

Air Velocity Flow Calibration
With an on-site modular wind tunnel, Young Calibration has one of the highest accuracy air velocity calibration facilities in Europe. The firm calibrates and tests wind speed measuring devices such as pitot tubes, vane anemometers, thermal anemeometers, yaw probes and cup anemometers for clients in wind energy, environmental, stack emissions, air tightness in buildings ATTMA, laminar fume cupboards and health and safety standards.

The wind tunnel facility, with a high accuracy laser doppler anemometry system and automated X, Y, Z traverse mechanism, can offer air velocity calibrations in the region of 0.02 - 100 m/s, with a UKAS accreditation range of 0.05 - 80 m/s and a best measurement uncertainty of 0.4% +0.01 m/s. The company can provide on site calibration of wind tunnels and ducts using the laser doppler as a reference device. For any questions or problems associated with the calibration of air velocity devices please feel free to discuss this with any of our team.

Calorimetric Heat Exchanger Performance Testing

Young Calibration houses an extensive thermal testing facility which provides calorimetric heat exchanger testing services for radiators, intercoolers, chargecoolers, cab heaters, WCACC and oil coolers. Serving the automotive, marine and military industries,

Radiator Thermal Test

Young Calibration's team of engineers and technicians handle a wide variety of thermal fluid testing requirements. The company operates two calorimetric wind tunnels for both passenger car and motosport applications. The first tunnel, which comprises of a 300 kW coolant, charge air and lubrication supply system can cope with most passenger car and small truck operating conditions, and also undertake cooler pack assessments whilst operating coolant, charge and oil cooler systems as a single test. The second high pressure wind tunnel can accommodate single seater racing vehicle ductwork, for complete radiator and ductwork system development, with duct velocities of 200 mph being currently tested.

The test facility is equipped with the latest high accuracy and stable measurement systems, and has proven to be one of most respected independent heat exchanger performance testing facilities worldwide.

Heat Exchanger Cleaning & Particle Assessment Services to ISO 16232

Young Calibration recently commissioned an ISO Grade Cleanroom for the cleanliness testing of thermal fluid components, mainly supporting its heat exchanger testing services. Particle analysis, flushing, pulsing, cleaning and force drying can be conducted on coolers of all types, including; radiators, intercoolers, chargecoolers, cab heaters, WCACC, oil coolers, KERS coolers, piston cooling jet coolers and fuel coolers. Cleanliness levels can be analysed and monitored down to 1 micron, using a range of techniques. The company is serving the aviation, F1 motorsport, marine and military industries.
